UNIT 2 Summary: ( Classical India and China)
Ancient China and Ancient China both were of the earliest, if not the first, civilizations to ever be formed. Each of this civilizations had their own script of daily life depending on their teachings of life and religion. China's society as a majority followed Confucius's teachings(Confucianism); however Buddhism would then become a major religion later on through merchants in the Silk Road. On the other hand was Ancient India's civilization which followed Buddhism and Hinduism. Ancient India's society believed in karma, which is a deciding fate for told by the actions of an individuals decisions. This karma was especially followed when it came to the Caste System; A social system that the Indians follow.
Buddha (left picture) or Siddhartha Gautma founded Buddhism to teach the people how to get rid of suffering through following The Eight Fold Path and the Four Noble Truths; if successful, the young monk would reach Nirvana, which is when an individual reaches enlightenment and no longer feels greed and suffering. Confucius (Middle) had this idea of having the whole of china work under one single group in order for the better of society as a whole and not as an individual for themselves, so that everyone was unified, worked together, and benefited all together. On the last picture to the top right corner shows a visual image of the caste system. In Ancient India the people would each do their duty as a citizen depending on what status they were in the social caste; There was no social mobility, meaning where you were in your social class you remained there until death, but this is the interesting part, when reincarnated or 'born again' depending on how well you played your part will impact on the next social class you were born in.
